PCB remediation at an industrial facility:

Concord's scope of work involved the removal and replacement of PCB contaminated concrete in the rail car service pit and shop floors of an industrial facility.  Hazardous and non-hazardous levels of PCB contaminated concrete were removed.  The project was accomplished in phases while the facility remained in operation.  The work areas were isolated from the occupied areas by constructing negative air containments.  The containments were constructed with fire retardant, reinforced polyethylene. Negative air machines with hepa filters were installed to maintain a negative pressure within the containment area.  Air monitoring equipment was set up within the containment and at the exterior of the containment area.  The air was sampled daily to insure compliance with OSHA regulations.   The PCB contaminated concrete was saw cut into pieces and removed with heavy equipment. The PCB contaminated concrete was transported to a chemical waste Subtitle C landfill for disposal.  Confirmation sampling was conducted upon removal of the contaminated concrete.  The rails, service pit and shop floor were then reconstructed.  The concrete surfaces were finished with a chemical resistant epoxy paint to prevent future contamination.
